Reverend Marilyn Bassfield was born in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Reverend Richard, Sr. and Carrie Ravenel. She is the eighth of ten children. Marilyn attended South Carolina public schools, as well as Boston public schools. She further pursed her education at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts and is a 2013 graduate of the Bible Institute at Brookland Baptist Church.

In 1990 Reverend Bassfield joined Brookland Baptist Church located in Columbia, South Carolina under the leadership of Dr. Charles B. Jackson Sr., and in May 2005, Marilyn was licensed as an Evangelist and was ordained to the office of Reverend in January 2013 under the Gospel Ministry of the Gethsemane Missionary Association of South Carolina. She presently walks under the anointing as a powerful, energetic preacher and teacher always willing to proclaim the Word of the Lord.

Reverend Bassfield serves as Director of the Brookland Baptist Church Intercessory Prayer Ministry. Prayer is a priority in her life. Her kind and giving spirit has afforded her the opportunity to lead in the planning of several workshops, prayer vigils, and prayer revival sat various churches including her home church. She has been blessed to assist with the Global Day of Prayer for the South Carolina Region.

Reverend Bassfield was instrumental as chairperson of a city-wide prayer event on Easter in the year 2000 gathering over 50,000 people together in unity of prayer, including several churches in the state of South Carolina, civilians and U.S. Military soldiers and personnel.

​

She serves as the Vice President of the International Chapter of Purposed Women with Power, and the President of the local chapter of Purposed Women with Power, this group is dedicated to the cause of Christ addressing social concerns such as; abused children, battered women, and teenage pregnancy programs with an emphasis on shelter and the sick and shut-in.

​

Reverend Bassfield has dedicated her life's work to ministering to the hearts of hurting women, bringing wholeness to women of all ages. Through God’s anointing those that have been called to her hand have experienced healing and deliverance.

​

Other board affiliations include 2Proclaim Outreach Ministry, Boston Massachusetts, executive board member of the Sisterhood Ministry Brookland Baptist Church and a Missionary from her heart.

Marilyn is married to Deacon Curtis Bassfield, and they are the proud parents of five beautiful daughters.

Marilyn’s favorite scriptures are: Jeremiah 33:3 “Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” and Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” KJV
